AMD trampled from top to bottom

AMD can't even win at the bottom of the rung. It even loses at cheap CPUs now.

This is sad. Funny, but sad.

AMD loses from top to bottom. It just loses. No wonder it gave up.

Not much point for me in posting here anymore. When you go into a store, just look for the Intel logo.

Later.

THE WAR IS OVER- AMD ADMITS DEFEAT

http://news.techeye.net/chips/amd-surrenders-in-war-against-intel

It is starting to look like AMD has woken up to the fact that it cannot defeat Intel and should be doing something better with its time like taking up knitting.

The two outfits have been slugging it out for processor supremacy for years, but AMD has worked out that really it should be targeting Qualcomm and Nvidia instead.

According to the San Jose Mercury, AMD spokesman Mike Silverman said that AMD needed to let go of the old 'AMD versus Intel' mindset.

He said AMD had wasted a lot of time going after Intel when it should have been developing a mobile strategy.

Phenom II X6 catches up to upper-end i5 and lower-end i7, but that's about it

http://www.anandtech.com/show/3674/amds-sixcore-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-1055t-reviewed/1

For the same price, Core i7 860 and Core i5 750 are generally better buys than Phenom II X6 1090T and 1055T.

The new Thubans excel at certain content creation tasks, and unless you're very specific about what you're going to do with those chips they're still not winners as far as performance per dollar is concerned.

Close, but no cigar.

AMD's Phenom II lineup completely disrupted by Intel Core i5 750

The mid-range Core i5 750 not only outperforms the top range Phenom II X4 965, but costs less as well.

That's curtains for the Phenom II line unless AMD drops their prices big time, which they haven't done yet probably because it'll ruin their pricing structure.

I don't need to repeat all the articles. Just Google "Core i5 750" or "i5 750 Phenom 965".

End of message.

Core i5 also beats Phenom II X4 955

In addition to an older Core 2 Q9550, the upcoming Core i5 running at 2.66GHz would also beat a Phenom II X4 955 running at 3.2GHz, and it would cost less too unless AMD drops their price in response:

http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/13848/1/
Guys from forum at Asian hardware site Xfastest managed to get some pictures and do some benchmarks of Intel's upcoming Core i5 2.66GHz processor. The tests were done on Intel's reference motherboard, and it looks like this one will be enough beat AMD's Phenom II X4 955 CPU clocked at 3.2GHz.

Core i5 will start to become available at the end of August. AMD had better just produce better products or it's lights out for them.

Forbes Opinion Piece on Intel EU Antitrust Decision

http://www.forbes.com/2009/05/14/neelie-kroes-amd-intel-opinions-contributors-antitrust.html

Beaming her most self-satisfied smile for photographers, Europe's antitrust czarina, Neelie Kroes, joked on May 13 that Intel Corporation should change its slogan from "sponsors of tomorrow" to "sponsors of the European taxpayer."

Dr. Evil, a character in the Austin Powers films, after emerging from cryogenic storage into the present, demands "One Million Dollars" as the price for stopping his evil plan only to be informed that isn't an extraordinary sum these days. He then amends his demand to "One HundredBillion Dollars."

Ms. Kroes, like the re-educated Dr. Evil, recognizes that bigger numbers get more attention. They also serve to pressure firms into cooperating with her--after all, targets that face a truly awful potential punishment are more likely to take extraordinary steps to avoid it. Eliot Spitzer used that tactic as a prosecutor to pressure innocent firms and individuals into deals that made headlines for the aspiring politician.

If antitrust authorities around the world see this as the pattern to emulate--after all, it increases the prominence and importance of the regulator and pleases all the firms that don't have to work so hard to keep up with market leaders--the rest of us will suffer as well.

Anyways, that's the opinion of Ronald A. Cass, who is listed on the article as chairman of the Center for the Rule of Law, dean emeritus of Boston University School of Law, and former commissioner and vice-chairman of the U.S. International Trade Commission. I myself don't have an opinion on this. The opinion of Intel on this of course are in the press releases.

Newest AMD Phenom II 955 "black edition" still loses to cheaper Core 2 Quad Q9550-based system

Even with the newest Phenom II chip, AMD is still losing to Intel in the price-performance contest.

http://www.betanews.com/article/For-the-desktop-AMD-covets-the-budget-enthusiast-with-32-GHz-quadcore/1240516088

On the other hand, what would our price be for an Intel system that's comparable in performance to the new Black Edition -- not Intel's premium CPU, but something that performs about as well as the 955. Tom's Hardware tests reveal that the closest performer in the Intel category is the 2.83 GHz Core 2 Quad Q9550, which Intel sells for $266 (Newegg's markup isn't that high at $269.99). And yes, you read right, Intel's 2.83 GHz model is matched with AMD's 3.2 GHz model.

Right now, Newegg is selling an Asus motherboard with Intel's P45 chipset, for $99 after rebate. That more than compensates for the CPU price premium, since with this motherboard we can still use DDR2 memory. I can keep the other Dragon components and still save ten bucks, paying $869.94.

At that point, the question becomes whether I want to go up against Maseratis and lose by a length, or go up against a Chevy Caprice Classic and get beaten by a nose. AMD's new platform components may have the "Black Edition" theme, but until they catch up to Intel in the architecture department, the source of that blackness may be smoke.

AMD is trying to drum up the myth that it somehow gets the upper hand in the budget enthusiast segment. It still doesn't.
